Wild Card of Cascadia is a trio from Portland whose immersive, spontaneous music emerges from omnivorous, ever-changing, inquisitive working methods. In search of unexpected discoveries and a continually broadening vocabulary of ideas and sound making approaches, they deploy conceptual prompts, unexpected instrumentation, and game-like challenges. They draw from free improvisation, musique concrete, modern composition, and experimental music influences and processes, and often find playful, challenging sounds that transcend typical tropes of modern "ambient" and modular synth music. Emphasizing live performance in non-traditional venues over traditional 'band' activities and recordings, Wild Card's two self-released albums are snapshots of the band's evolving working methods and discoveries. Wild Card's membership includes established artists William Selman (Mysteries of the Deep, Critique of Everyday Life), Marcus Fischer (12k), and Paul Dickow (who records as Strategy), but the group's sound is distinct from their individual projects.

We're grateful to collaborate and produce on the shared, stolen, unceded, ancestral and traditional territories of Penelakut, Lamalcha, Hwitslum and other Hul’qumi’num speaking peoples, as well as the ceded territories of Tsawwassen First Nation, on what is now known as Galiano Island, British Columbia. We recognize the complex impacts that hosting settlers and non-settlers has on the Indigenous land and peoples of this area, and we aim to be responsible and accountable for these impacts and our footprint—whether cultural, environmental or social.

We acknowledge the generous support of our partners and funders:
